Roman History Rome

Arrival day (FCO) — Southeast Rome → Colosseum + Caesar/Forum core (NO prebooked tickets)

• Arrive FCO ~08:00 → get into the city, then start from Via Corfinio, 9 (San Giovanni area).
• Nearby “Rome bones” warm-up: Porta Maggiore (aqueduct gate vibes).
• Colosseum district immersion: circle Colosseum for the best exterior angles, then do Basilica of San Clemente for layers-on-layers.
• Caesar + Senate thread (if any Forum access opens up / last-minute tickets appear): inside the Forum, hunt down Curia Julia and Temple of Divus Julius.
• Finish with the best “Imperial propaganda boulevard” walk at dusk: Via dei Fori Imperiali, with the edges of Foro di Cesare and Forum of Augustus right there.

Vatican/Prati cluster (Vatican Museums OFF the table)

• Ultra-early: go straight to Saint Peter's Square and into Saint Peter’s Basilica (free entry; dress code: knees/shoulders covered).
• Walk the perimeter of Vatican City / Prati for the vibe, then cross the river.
• Afternoon: Castel Sant'Angelo (Hadrian’s Mausoleum) for history + rooftop views.
• Bonus (nearby, no timed-ticket pressure): continue on foot toward the historic center for evening roaming and food.

Claudius day (aqueducts + Temple of Claudius + Celian Hill cluster)

• Morning: transit out to The Park of the Aqueducts for maximum aqueduct drama; add the nearby Claudian acqueduct for the Claudius name-check.
• Midday: return to the center for the Claudian/Celian cluster: Tempio del Divo Claudio + Parco Archeologico del Celio + walk the ancient streetline on Clivo di Scauro.
• Underground-house archaeology (if open when you arrive): Case Romane del Celio.
• Late afternoon: quick ancient-water add-on back near the Forum edge: Aqua Claudia.
• Evening: finish with the classic family must-do at Trevi Fountain when it’s lit.

Historic center “power loop” + Roman Museums + departure (FCO, flight ~16:00)

• Start at Termini-area Roman collections (high yield, very “Republic → Empire”): National Roman Museum - Palazzo Massimo alle Terme → National Roman Museum, Baths of Diocletian.
• Then the classic centro core (walkable cluster): Pantheon → Ara Pacis Museum.
• Imperial Fora + museums (tight cluster): Mercati di Traiano Museo dei Fori Imperiali + Capitoline Museums.
• Late Republic / Caesar assassination context: go by Largo di Torre Argentina and then specifically the Curia di Pompeo.
• Finish nearby with Teatro di Marcello + Portico of Octavia.
• Buffer + airport: head back for bags and leave for FCO with plenty of cushion (target leaving central Rome around ~13:00).
