Day 1
May 8
Base: Hotel Stern Chur, which works well for this whole stretch.
Keep this intentionally light after arrival.
Start with a gentle wander in Altstadt.
If the weather is clear and you still have energy, ride up toward Chur Bergbahnen (Brambrüesch) for mountain views with minimal effort.
Transport: use Chur as your rail hub for the next few days and avoid moving hotels.
Day 2
May 9
From Hotel Stern Chur: walk or take a short taxi/bus to Chur station, then take the train toward Reichenau-Tamins and stay on for the RhB gorge section.
Base yourself at Hotel Stern Chur and continue by train through Rheinschlucht.
The three classic hop-off points are Trin Station, Versam-Safien, and Valendas-Sagogn.
Easiest option: stay on the train for the full scenic section and treat it as a pure sightseeing ride.
Best balanced option for you: get off at Versam-Safien, do only a gentle section toward Valendas-Sagogn, then re-board.
More ambitious option: hop off at Trin Station for suspension-bridge and viewpoint territory, but only if your legs feel strong that day.
If you want the biggest viewpoint payoff with manageable effort, combine the rail ride with Il Spir, and keep Caumasee optional.
Food/water warning: do not count on full services at the gorge stations themselves or along the walking sections between Versam-Safien and Valendas-Sagogn. Bring water and a snack before starting the gorge segment.

Day 3
May 10
First choice: take the scenic train to Arosa for the more mountainous, high-alpine day.
If visibility is good, use the lift system to get toward Weisshorn and finish with an easy stroll around Obersee.
Backup plan if the weather looks worse or you want a slightly easier day: go to Flims, continue by bus to Flims Waldhaus, then walk through the forest to Il Spir.
Keep Caumasee optional only if your legs still feel good after Il Spir.
Transport: Arosa is one of your easiest day trips from Chur because the RhB connection is straightforward and scenic. For the backup, think bus to Flims/Flims Waldhaus, then walking for the final approach to Il Spir.
Food/water warning: do not assume services at Weisshorn, on short viewpoint walks, or around Il Spir if you arrive between meal periods or in poor weather. Bring water and at least one snack from Chur or Arosa/Flims before heading higher.
Around Obersee and in central Arosa, and likewise in central Flims, finding food is much easier than at the viewpoints themselves.
Day 4
May 11
Check out from Hotel Stern Chur and take an easy direct train toward Zürich HB instead of doing another big mountain day.
First stop: store your luggage in the lockers at Zürich HB, then explore the city bag-free.
Spend the day gently around Zürich Old Town and along Lake Zurich.
Keep this intentionally flexible: coffee, lunch, lakeside walk, and plenty of buffer before heading to the airport.
Return to Zürich HB to collect your luggage, then take the train to ZRH with a comfortable margin before your 19:00 flight.
